Dalek Nightmare

Saturday, April 30th, 2005

Last night I dreamt of daleks. Thousands of them invading Earth.

I thought I was so clever, hiding, but they were just testing us humans. The ones that evaded capture were good enough. Soon there were just two people left in my city. The daleks gave us amnesty and told us we would be rewarded. We were led to a room, stairs led up from the room somewhere else. The other human captured went first. It wasn’t until the sawing started that I realised they were cutting off our legs to turn us into daleks.

And then George woke me up. Take about a cliffhanger.

Those trailers are good, aren’t they? Can’t wait until 7pm tonight.

Aliens of London and World War III

Thursday, April 28th, 2005

George loved Aliens of London, but was disappointed by World War III. So was I, but for different reasons.

Starting with Aliens of London, George loved just about everything the fanboys on OG hated. The fart gags, the pig and the tone of the episode. He was thrilled by the crash of the spaceship and once again sat spell bound through the whole episode.

Aliens of London gets 6 out of 10 from me. A good, fun episode, great special effects. The tone and pacing seemed “not right”. I can’t put my finger on that, but Rose was “new” but Aliens of London didn’t feel “new”.

World War III was a let down. This was the first episode that George didn’t sit through the whole episode. He went off and did something less boring instead. He had a point. A lot of talking; running round some corridors (nice ones mind) and some internet technical support via a mobile phone.

I give World War III 5 out of 10. There were some great character stuff in this episode. The ending was especially good with the 10 seconds moment from Roses’ mum, and Mickey turning out not to be such an idiot after all. The Doctor having an irrational hatred of someone? Only in a Russell T Davies version of Doctor Who. The Doctor saving the day despite being trapped in a box (no silly escape using the sonic screwdriver) and using his brain. The sharp dialogue. If ever an episode gets marks for the trailer for next week, this is the one. I can’t wait.

Who Should You Vote For?

Thursday, April 28th, 2005

Who Should You Vote For? has been updated [via "author of my favourite Faction Paradox book":http://infinitarian.blogspot.com/2005_04_01_infinitarian_archive.html#111471124359423546 (I should point out that I've only read the first two)].

Over the past week, I’ve been thinking heavily about who I should vote for. This is what the website says :-

Labour 19
Conservative -40
Liberal Democrat 93
UK Independence Party -22
Green 79

You should vote: Liberal Democrat

I have three choices. Martin Salter is a good, local MP and contributes to Reading West in a big way. He has even campaigned down my road and got the pot holes in the road fixed. He has voted the “right” way on Iraq and is only let down on his views on ID cards. I will try to get a reply from him on this.

The other two choices are the LibDems and the Green party. This website thinks Lib Dems, but I’m edging towards Green. Should I put national politics ahead of the local work Mr. Salter has done? Remember Reading West is considered a safe seat. I got a leaflet from Labour stating that the Lib Dems say I should vote Labour to keep the Tories out. I doubt if they would admit this if I phoned them directly, but tactical voting is a very odd thing causing strange voting. This is a major issue in our First Past the Post system.
