Fire strikes

gilmae may scoff but now we have “forest fires too”:http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/2958681.stm

In today’s August like weather (if UK Augusts were hot and sunny) I put a fence up in the garden, make a compost heap, and dug out a new border, which has a sun dial as it’s center piece. Trouble was, I’ve lost the instructions on how to set the time, so I’ve no idea how to position the gnomon.

Aparently the best time to set the position is noon, and set the gnomon to noon at noon. But then I’ve got to take my lattitude into account, but I don’t think I need to be that accurate.

You lucky git. I want a sundial. I’ve been thinking of getting one for the front garden. Are they expensive?

Depends on your definition of ’sundial’ - I don’t think a stick in the ground costs too much ;)

Dunno. It was a wedding present. And we got married in 1999, which just shows how useless I am at getting round to doing things in the garden.

See, I always knew Mother England was secretly envious of her antipodean colonies. Nothing else could explain the masochistic watching of the soaps, the yearning for real heat waves and now, copying our natural disasters. You poor, poor sods.
