The acts commenced on this ball of earth: Upon my tongues continual slanders ride,
Thursday night is football night. I had a rather complicated day today involving my car going to the garage, getting to work without the car, getting back to the garage and getting to football. All the while, hoping that my wife wasn't about to go into labour whilst I couldn't get to her. (An image of a man trying to desperately flag down a taxi without any money).
More on the car later. I have started playing football again partly in an effort to get fit, but mainly because I used to love playing football and haven't played for nearly five years.
I really loved to play football. At one point, I participated in organised footballing activity 6 days a week, and usually kicked a ball around with friends anyway on the other day (a Friday). This was when I was at school. I played for the school team, a local Saturday team that I kind of grew up playing for, and a Sunday team with a number of my friends.
When I went to University, this all stopped and I got fat. During my time there, I put on 3 stone in weight. I got unfit. I drank, ate and didn't exercise. Today, I don't drink so much (usually), eat healthily and try to exercise more. However, I'm paying the price of my university years.
I was really bad at football last night. If I'd always been crap, I don't think I'd mind so much, but it hurts to think that the people I play with think I've always been this bad at the sport.
Hopefully, it is lack of practice and my generally lack of fitness. I lot of my passes went wrong because I was tired. Too tired to kick a ball! I used to play 90 minutes on a full pitch both Saturday and Sunday and still manage to get from one end of the pitch to another at the end of the game.
Still, my university years were fun!
