1. Lord of the Rings

   I went to see Lord of the Rings tonight with Maggie. I very much enjoyed it. It is easy to say that this is the best film I've seen in the last year, because it is the only film I've seen this year. At the cinema at least.

   It all looked so real. With the Phantom Menace you could see the special effects still, even in the 'real' characters. Here, everything looked real. Even the characters that were just special effects looked real. My only criticism is that you could have lost around 15 minutes from the film if the excessive "ring on hand" shots were cut.

   Good to see an unhappy ending too. No Hollywood ending for this movie. Clearly there was someone in the audience who just didn't get it. I overheard the following :-

   "So, the tall one was a wizard called Gandalf ..."

   Afterwards, I went back to Maggie's and fixed her computer. No idea what caused the problem, but it simply wasn't starting up. I got in via Safe Mode and removed Norton Antivirus and another application that it was sticking on. Then, it started. Who knows why it stopped working?

   Still, once again, I save the day. People are clearly scared of computers still, and wouldn't think to mess around with things until they solve it, like I do.
